Ancient Chinese Culture Comes to Live through the Shen Yun Performing Arts

The richness in the traditional Chinese culture is what fascinating us the most. Its philosophies and its uniqueness of the culture in a long history have made it distinct from the western world. Although the Chinese culture is made up of many dynasties, the Tang dynasty is the best dynasty to represent what the traditional Chinese culture is and since it was at a golden era for the ancient Chinese civilization as it reached its apex both in its cultural development and technological advancement.

The Chinese people believe that their culture was not evolved or created by the people, but rather it was created by a divine source called Shen in Chinese. It has been passed down from generation to generation. All its ways of life and science are derived in some forms of divine or from Heaven. In ancient China, the Chinese called its land as the Land of the Divine or Shen Zhou.

The word "culture" is not merely a category of interests we often used in the modern days but rather it is what defines all of us. It is passed down from generations through various forms. Most noticeably are the language we spoke and the writing we use to record our lives. It is deeply rooted in our languages that same words from different culture may have totally different connotations in its meaning. Due to the linguistic limitation, a culture has been expressed and passed down by arts. Especially for ancient Chinese art, it has been expressed from simple household pottery to Imperial dance and opera. It was in this type of form, a culture is able to be preserved and continued.

The traditional Chinese culture is deteriorating rapidly especially in the last 60 years. This is mainly not due to modernization, but it was systematically destroyed by the communist regime in China. From the replacement of traditional writing to simplified (non-logical) writing, it has lost its cultural meaning within each character. Under its ruling, it turned divine loving people into atheists. Destroying traditional philosophies both the Confucianism and Taoism, and replacing them with horrible communism. Sadly, in the present time, the essence of traditional Chinese could hardly be found in the mainland China. But fortunately, there are many traditions still being kept by the overseas Chinese people.

The Shen Yun Performing Arts, a New York based performing group, is truly a god send from divine. Its mission is to restore the essence of the traditional Chinese arts through the most fundamental but profound form of arts. From its simple gestures to magnificent color on the Tang customs, every moment, every show brings back the tradition piece by piece. There is nothing to translate since its dance performances transcend its divine message and convey deeper meaning that all human beings share across the culture and time. It is a truly a Chinese Renaissance. Touring 220 cities globally and it is absolutely no language or culture barrier, and many have learned to appreciate the true ancient Chinese culture. Have you watched it? Check out for the tour near you.
